Cross-generation superstudy

One thing you have in common with all other GUTS participants? Your mothers are all involved in a study of their own – the Nurses’ Health Study. That’s the group we reached out to when we began to enroll participants in GUTS.

Combined, the Nurses' Health Study and GUTS function as a kind of cross-generation superstudy. That means that not only can we examine links between your current behaviors and future health outcomes, we can also look at how your mother’s data links up with your own.*

For example, if we wanted to know whether eating more than 7,000 almonds while pregnant is linked to having a child who has a lifelong fascination with musical instruments from the 1400s, we could. (We don’t.)

*But only as linking ID numbers: we always keep your information confidential.
